Best girl band ever.

I give you Katzenjammer, who I saw live on Saturday - to say they blew away the crowd away is an understatement.
4 Girls from Norway who are constantly swapping instruments (odd instruments) all taking turns singing songs (and they all had good voice!) and there songs were a hell of alot of fun (folky pop), as were they.

Can't find any live version but here is probably an officail video for one of there songs.

They sound a bit like New Model Army with the 'bitter old troskyite' dial turned down a few notches.

Is that a good or bad thing?

Here's a live song on some street....

They remind me abit of the monkeys (but they can play their own instruments).

I'd have gone more for the Leningrad Cowboys, but with the weird dial only twisted to "Norway" rather than "Finland"

I can imagine they are a lot of fun live though Janie, but not a patch on Republica!

That depends on whether you are a fan of NMA.

Wouldn't say I was a fan, don't own any of their songs, but can enjoy their music - i'd probably pick up a compilation album if I saw one cheap.

Like the rockabilly thing but not so sure about the rest of it.

Having seen Republica (and Moloko) supporting Garbage at the NEC sometime in the late 90's (version 2.0 tour) and I can honestly say they are better live than Republica!

But being fair sitting about a mile away from the stage in the rather bland corporate NEC setting vs being a few foot away from the stage in a tiny club in Brighton isn't a great comparison. But watching 4 twee looking Norwegian girls steal the heart of a mostly hardened indy crowd with a combination of wonderful crafted pop folky songs using a huge array of strange instruments and warm likeable personalities was great!

I don't miss the "Arena" era one bit.
Actually. Motley Crue at NEC in 2006 was amazing. Apart from that it was mostly shit.

Some genuinely good bands just looked lost on stage and bombed.

I saw an awful Chili Peppers performance at Wembley a few years ago. Really unmotivated only played for just over an hour (not including the huge 30minute break before the encore) and 15 songs - which is terrible for a band with a back catalog their size. Also they only played 1 song from the albums before Californication (nothing from Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik.....). Ripoff, but strangly alot of the audience seemed happy with that!

Midway down is the Katzenjammer review from the same concert I saw, pretty much sums up my thoughts too.

I saw some of those other acts mentioned as well, wasn't over keen on Teenagers in Tokyo (to screamy) and Dappled Cities (who the reviewer didn't watch much off) were actually good - the shark he mentions in the writeup actually got thrown into the crowd and ripped up, it was a fluffy toy and the beans covered everyone (including me!!!!) - good fun though!

Finally got round to purchasing the album. It's alot of fun, the energy and personality of the love performance is still present. Only annoying thing is the song below isn't on the UK version (and it's one of the best songs)
