Play FINALLY sent this through to me :/ But at least it is the collectors edition one, and suggestions on the starting class for me ? I don't want no challenge but I also don't want to lob my controller into the telly

The starting class doesn't really make much difference.
The Royal (regenerating magic ring) and the Hunter (Powerful Bow) probably have the easiest run though the first level in my opinion, but after that you access the leveling options and any class can put points into any skill. The Barbarian is probably the hardest simply because you start with no armour, making the first level tough - again it's only the first level though, because you can buy armour afterwards (actually you can buy armour in the middle of level 1, but it's expensive at that point).

Basically get an idea on what character you want to try and make and pick the class that best suits that from the starting stats - one bit of advice is don't try and character that can do everything or you'll end up with a gimped character. If you go melee put all your points into the key stats (str/dex/end/sta) if you go magic only put enough point into strength/dex to weld a decent shield - all the rest goes into magic or faith and intelligence.

Played it for the first time last night, harsh is right, once I got the hang of the parry though it became more bareable. Had a friend over as well, he had a go, after a few beers I should add, playing the tutorial and it went something like this:

"Ohhh nice"
"This is fun"
"Die Mutha *&*£$*(£"
"Wierd the way stuff gets caught on things" (said after he'd spent 10 seconds walking along with a dead body bouncing around his feet)
"This isn't that hard"
"What the!"
"Run away"
"Leave me alone you $(*&$("
"I need to heal stop hitting me !"
"FOUR, FOUR herbs to heal back to full, I hate this"

Then about 30 mins later I pried the controller from his hand

Only thing I'm not keen on in the glowing effects, though that could be something in the early levels but my character seemed to have a constant glow and particle effect going on around him.

It is a must buy for PS3 owners though, assuming you like hack n' slash fun

How are you getting on?

To be honest I didn't bother with the shield parry at all. Rolling, moving and blocking with the shield was my preferred way to avoid attacks. Getting the timing right with parry seemed pretty aweward and once you get a bigger shield you can't parry anymore anyway.

Probably only played for 3 or 4 hours but must say I'm really enjoying it, no internet at home at the mo, which means no notes which I don't really miss, but I do find I miss the ghosts running around, it somehow made the place feel more real in some way. Also given up on parry and just use shield and wandy thing (it is a wand isn't it ?), also had a mess around with two handed sword-play and parry, and when it works it's really good, but I find it still a little hit and miss compared to rolling/blocking.

All being well BT will get the internet working today ready for a full Saturday of play, with the notes and ghosts running around again

Would still say that it, and LittleBigPlanet are the two must have games for the PS3, and will probably add GT5 to that list when it finally does arrive

Started to play this game and you're right it does remind me of EQ in a way. Having a blast with it though, but where is this black lady to level up my character? can't seem to find her anywhere. I got up to the bit on the bridge with all the enemies and the dragon. After the dragon made short work of them all I crapped my pants and ran off because I had to many souls to waste I am also using the wand and shield combo which seems to be working out well. My only gripe is sometimes the camera can be a bit all over the place.

You have to complete the first level of the game in order to get to the lasy who lets you level up.

You have to get past that Dragon on the bridge - don't bother fighting it, just run past with you shield up to deflect that arrows the archers fire at you, then kill the archers when you far enough across the bridge to avoid the dragon fire.
After that there is a little bit more to get though till you get to the first boss (hint : use the fire bombs on him!). Once you've killed him the game opens up properly and you can levelup and buy stuff and choose your route.
